![]() ![]() I have a modest collection of FLAC albums and playing from just that collection (during my one month break from Roon) have really made me connect to the music more. So I would be doing this mainly for the audio experience, meaning Plexamp. I'm not really into keeping my own movies/videos library. ![]() But now I can stream my local library and Qobuz content without switching apps.īut with the Plex Pass discount until the 23rd, I'm considering taking the plunge with Plex. I also have Qobuz and mainly use Roon to stream my Qobuz library to my RPi endpoints. Even the new update worked almost in no time. But, just like you, after months of frustration, I have it working perfectly. It's been a love and hate relationship with Roon. However, I'm fairly new to Plexamp (just over two months, I think) and have had a couple of years with Roon. I also have both and on a monthly subscription on both. Also has a great feature set.īoth have no shortage of work ahead of them to improve their products. Roon wins audio quality and network/multizone/streaming. Plex wins video and plexamp has a great UI and feature set. When weeks of frustration melted into minutes only to be greeted with delight and not even having to read documentation. When the hours I wasted exceeded a Roon lifetime pass calculated at minimum wage, I dared to try the free trial. However I switched to Roon because I could not get the casting feature to work, despite excellent Plex and community support. The user experience of playing, searching browsing downloading and managing downloads is intuitive. Plexamp has the superior UI it looks better, but most importantly it is consistently intuitive. You can get stuck in search with no obvious return. Functions are too context sensitive so you are never sure where to find a button/feature. The playing, searching, browsing UI is good on Roon, needs work on ARC. The signal path, settings and device mgmt are excellent. Roon and ARC excel in the network UI dept. ARC has some pretty big UI issues that make the mobile interface unintuitive. Roon has the better network/streaming functionality and sound quality (eq and convolution) It just worked on the first go with my AVR, Raspberry Pi (USB DAC or Hat), TV etc. Not sure what to do but I have till December before I have to pay for Roon again so will decide by then. Took me months to retag and set up Plex music and the sonic analysis. So I'm in the same boat, not sure what I will choose. ![]() I haven't tried ARC in the car and Carplay is still to come so will try driving today with it and see what happens. ARC set up perfectly no problem yesterday and Roon seems to be working much better. That said it works much better than Roon but I love the Roon sound and the Tidal integration. So many little things they could to do to make it better but don't it seems. Loving it but does leave a lot to be desired with audio. 3 months ago I'd had enough and started with Plex and Plexamp. Just won't connect, takes forever just to play a song, etc etc. But since an update last year Roon has just been impossible especially with an iPhone. I'm a long time Roon user at 119 annually. ![]()
